David Guetta Announces New Album “Listen”

David-Guetta-Listen-2014-1200x1200

David Guetta had a runaway success with his 2011 album Nothing But the Beat, which became one of the most successful dance albums to ever be released in Europe. Spawning 10 singles that were released over a 22 month period, the album became his most well known and popular one. Over 3 years after the initial release of the first version of the album, the French DJ is finally back and ready to promote a brand new collection of songs. His new album, entitled Listen, has seen limited success to date, with three of the four singles released as of October 5th becoming massive commercial failures (“Bad”, “Shot Me Down” and “Blast Off”). Only the album’s fourth official single, “Lovers On the Sun (feat. Sam Martin)”,  became a success for the veteran DJ (reaching #1 in a handful of countries).

In fact, the promotion of the album’s first three singles was so poor, that one of them (“Blast Off”) failed to be included on the final track list for the album, while the other two (“Shot Me Down” and “Bad”) will only be released as a part of the deluxe edition. Joining “Lovers On the Sun” on the regular track list will be a brand new single called “Dangerous” (which also features Sam Martin). The new single will be released onto most digital platforms on Tuesday, October 7th following the track’s worldwide radio debut on Monday morning.

Listen is expected to be available for pre-order on iTunes as early as October 7th alongside the release of “Dangerous”. The album will be released on November 21st via Big Beat and Atlantic Records.

“Dangerous” has the potential to lead the album to an early victory, but damage done by failed releases (“Shot Me Down”, “Bad”) coupled with the fact that the single has vocals from the same artist that “Lovers On the Sun” does could ruin it. Additionally, it’s more of a thumping R&B/rock jam, unlike David Guetta’s signature sounds (which are typically electronic skewing). This is a toss-up.

Will promotion for Listen continue to have issues? Is “Dangerous” too odd of a single choice for Guetta? Is Sam Martin someone that people need to get comfortable with? Share your opinion and sound off in the comments below.
